Learn how to pray in Latin!
The Latin language is an important part of Roman Catholic culture, not only in the church, but also in the home.
As taught by Pope John XXIII in Veterum Sapientia:
"Thus the 'knowledge and use of this language,' so intimately bound up with the Church’s life, 'is important not so much on cultural or literary grounds, as for religious reasons.' These are the words of Our Predecessor Pius XI, who conducted a scientific inquiry into this whole subject, and indicated three qualities of the Latin language which harmonize to a remarkable degree with the Church’s nature. 'For the Church, precisely because it embraces all nations and is destined to endure to the end of time … of its very nature requires a language which is universal, immutable, and non-vernacular.'”
Recently, there has been resurgence among Catholics in regaining this patrimony as an integral part of their prayer life. To assist this effort, this unique booklet has been developed which features the texts of common prayers in Latin alongside their English translations and with phonetic renderings to easily learn their correct pronunciation.
The phonetics provided are according to the pronunciation rules of Liturgical Latin (more romano) and conveniently featured below the texts, with the plain Latin text and English translation shown on the opposite page (see the pics).
The prayers include those of the Rosary, Angelus, seasonal Marian hymns, meal prayers, and even some common liturgical responses.
